High Point Northeast Amateur Regional Write-Up

Big things happened at High Point Raceway this weekend, like internationally big things. A small farm on Taylortown Road became the largest city in Greene County, Pennsylvania as over 350 riders from across the country and world came to compete for a chance to go to the 35th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch. For the people staffing the event, it was just another race, but for the riders on the gate, it was their ticket to the next level. Few local residents knew about the event. There were no lights or cameras – Just competition.

We received rain overnight and the parking lot will be inaccessible until tomorrow afternoon. Our pit area is all grass and will need a day to dry out. The track is very sandy with excellent drainage, and will be in great shape for racing Sunday and Monday.

The Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and the journey to this prestigious amateur event continues for the sport’s up-and-coming riders. The first Regional Championships begin May 28th and will continue every weekend until June 26th. The regional winners will then compete at the National Championships held at Loretta Lynn Ranch on August 1st - 6th.

The final step in qualifying for the 35th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, begins this weekend in two regions across the United States. Amateur racers in the Southeast and both amateur and youth racers in the Northwest will continue their quest to compete in the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross race at the iconic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Since opening in 2011 ChilliTown MX has played host to many large scale events but this past weekend’s Mid-East Area Qualifier for Loretta Lynn’s Championship race proved to be one to remember. The weekend started out with open practice on Friday where more than 300 riders came to try their hand at the new track layout and see what new and exciting changes had been made to the facility.
