Byron Motorsports Park North Central Amateur Regional Race Report

This past weekend the Loretta Lynn’s North Central Regional kicked off at Motosports Park in Byron Illinois. The gates opened on Thursday to all the riders coming out from across the country looking for their ticket to the big race. This is very early regional so the competition was stacked this weekend with every A, B and C class having to run two divisions on Saturday along with LCQ’s to set the stage for the remaining two moto’s on Sunday. Motosports Park has been getting upgraded all spring to prepare for the large influx of riders. They made a lot more room for parking on the property and put down mulch to help keep the track in good shape. Things went really smooth especially factoring in the amount of riders hammering the track all weekend it held up well and had a ton of line options in every turn.

There was some really good racing going on this weekend several classes certainly stood out with some great performances from all the riders this weekend. It’s certainly a privilege to get that ticket and be done with regionals so early in the season giving a good amount of time to train for the national. The biggest stand out ride this weekend came from the B class with Christopher Fortier previously from Quebec Canada now living in Florida coming out to sweep all twelve moto’s he raced this weekend. Chris and his family have been staying in Illinois training with Club 57 MX and the hard work is certainly starting to pay off. Not only did he win every race it came with some adversity. To start things off he rode all the B classes on his stock practice 250, and to make things more interesting he fell on the start of 250B and got ran over. He managed to keep the clutch held down, get up and back in the lead by the third lap. He will certainly be one to watch for out at The Ranch this year in the 250 and 450 Limited classes.

It was also nice to see Chase Sexton back home being an Illinois local, now training out in California with his newly signed Geico Honda Ride. Chase had some good competition out at Motosports Park with Lorenzo Lorcurcio out looking to punch his ticket this weekend as well putting up some great battles with Sexton all weekend. Sexton put in some great rides all weekend keeping his lap times very consistent and won all his moto’s, running in Open Pro Sport, 250 A and 250 Allstars. It’s going to be great seeing Chase out at Loretta’s this year with some intense competition coming his way.

It was an awesome weekend out at Motosports Park with the crew keeping things running smooth, and facility looking amazing. The track held up great all weekend and made for some great racing out there. Congratulations to everyone that made it through to national, it was hard fought and a big accomplishment!
