Congratulations to 2015 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA
Amateur National Motocross Champions
38 Loretta Lynn National Championships Awarded
The 34th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, came to a conclusion on Saturday, August 1 at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. Thirty-eight National Championships were bestowed upon completion of the third set of motos with four dominant riders emerging victorious in two different classes.
The coveted AMA Horizon Award is given to the A-class rider who shows the most promise as they prepare to enter the professional ranks. This prestigious honor was awarded to Yamaha’s Benny Bloss who won the Open Pro Sport and finished third overall in 450 A. Bloss will be making his pro debute this weekend at the season finale of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship taking place at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The AMA Motocross Youth Rider Award goes to a rider under the age of 16 chosen for his or her performance in the Youth classes at the Loretta Lynn National. This year’s recipient was Jett Reynolds, who swept all six motos in 85cc (9-11) and 85cc (9-11) Limited classes.
The AMA Motocross Amateur Rider Award is designed to recognize an outstanding non-A-class rider at the nationals who is ready to make an immediate impact in A-class competition. Austin Forkner earned this award with his dual first place finishes in the 250 B and Schoolboy 2 (13-16) B/C classes.
The AMA Motocross Vet/Senior Rider Award acknowledges an outstanding rider over the age of 30. Results from all Vet classes are taken into consideration when selecting the winner. In this ultra-competitive division, two-time world champion and Frenchman Sebastian Tortelli proved to be a front-runner by capturing the Vet 35+ title, earning him this well-deserved award in his first-ever Loretta Lynn competition.
California added yet another State Championship award to the books by having the most racers out of any other state to win overall titles. California claimed 11 National Championships between Sam Franklin, Jon Ames, Dylan Gillespie, Paul Perebijnos, Sebastian Tortelli, Ryder Difrancesco, Maximus Vohland, Jett Renyolds and Carson Mumford. This brings the Golden State’s state championship tally to 21 of the 34 years the award has been bestowed.
Tristan Charboneau, 2014 AMA Motocross Amateur Rider award winner, had the fastest lap time of the week, clocking a 1:53.547 time during his second lap of the second moto in the 450 A division.
Returning to the Ranch was Georgia Practice Facility (GPF) who teamed up with On Track School to provide one lucky racer a full academic and athletic scholarship ride. The program encourages athletes competing at this high level to do so while continuing to receive an accredited education. Applicants submitted an essay detailing why the scholarship program would benefit them and their family, and how it would help them achieve their educational goals. Massachusetts’ own Jake Pinhancos outshined the rest of the applicants and will be enrolling in one of the On Track School educational programs, along with full access to the GPF facilities, for the 2015-2016 school year. Accompanying the scholarship award was the eighth annual On Track School Graduation Ceremony where all alumni were recognized for their academic achievements.
Following the graduation was the much anticipated Yamaha/Moto Tees Talent Show where a different level of talent was unveiled, including a stage filled with singers, dancers and musicians. Last year, 12-year-old racer Adi Malcolm from Littleton, Colorado, mesmerized the crowd with her unique style of interpretive dance. This performance, her first ever in public, not only earned her the award, but launched her into the public eye, where she quickly gained exposure by being featured on such sites as EllenTube and The Huffington Post. Although the competition was stiff, the returning champ once again captured the crowd and took home the win and the Yamaha generator.
Kicking it all off earlier in the week was the Red Bull Mini Moto, where industry mechanics had an opportunity to showcase their moto skills on super-hot pit bikes. Despite the bar-banging and name-calling, it was Team Vurb Moto that came out on top.
RacerTV.com provided an unprecedented 40 hours of LIVE race coverage throughout the week, resulting in over 470,000 live views during race week. The archived footage is now available for viewing HERE. In addition, two highlight shows featuring the event will air on NBC Sports Network later this fall on Sunday, October 11 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, October 18 at 4:30 p.m. EST.
The 2016 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship will return to the notable Loretta Lynn Ranch August 1-6, 2016.
