Top Amateurs Vie for Position at Area Qualifiers for
Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (May 8, 2009) - The world's top amateur motocross racers vying for a coveted spot on the line at the 2009 Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch on August 4-8 that have not qualified for the 27th running of the event have just two weekends to earn their Regional Qualifier birth via the Area Qualifiers.

"We have had a very competitive qualifying season," said Director of MX Sports Tim Cotter. "The on-track competition is really heating up for those last available and valuable spots in the Regional Championships."

The seven Area Qualifiers, which offer a combined 52 qualifying events across seven regions (Northeast, Southeast, Mid-East, North Central, South Central, Northwest and Southwest) will produce advancement positions into the Regional Qualifiers. From there, the Regional Qualifiers will determine which of the world's premier amateur motocross racers will have their chanced to compete at the Amateur National Motocross Championships.

The final opportunity for the Area Qualifiers are as follows:

  • Southeast May 9-10 Bremen Race Park Bremen, Ga.
  • Southwest May 9-10 Thunder Valley Lakewood, Col.
  • Mid-East May 16-17 Crow Canyon Uhrichsville, Ohio
  • North Central May 16-17 Little Falls MX Little Falls, Minn.
  • Northeast May 16-17 Actiontown Dillwyn, Va.
  • Northwest May 16-17 Extreme MX Airway Heights, Wash.
  • South Central May 16-17 Tony Wynn MX Little Rock, Ark.

Throughout the years, the Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch has served as a proving grounds for today's biggest names in the AMA Motocross and Supercross series, including James Stewart, Ricky Carmichael, Kevin Windham, Ryan Villopoto and Mike Alessi to name a few.

This year's Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships expects 23,000-plus competitors from an international pool to earn their spot on the line in one of the 33 classes represented at this week-long event that is affectionately called "The World's Greatest Motocross Vacation."
