Things got heated up this past weekend, May 24th-25th in Byron, IL as riders from across the country and even Canada descended on the track for the last qualifier in the Midwest before the Regionals start up in June. The classes were packed and the races were exciting as ever with everyone going for broke at the last chance to grab up a ticket.

In Open Pro Sport Josh Osby and Daniel Baker out of Kentucky were all over each other in the first moto passing back and forth with Baker coming out on top. The second moto however Baker had a bad start and had to work through the field as he tore through everyone he wasn’t able to make it stick leaving Osby with the overall and a very exciting class to watch.

Andy Kost out of Caledonia Wisconsin has been out with a broken collar bone and made it back on the bike for the first time today. It didn’t look like he missed a beat sweeping the overall in 250B and finishing second overall in 450B behind Nathan Hall making his way up from Kentucky. Kost fell behind in the first moto taking third and came back for the win in the second moto.

Super Mini rider Gage Pace was out at the park today getting eight overall in the Super Mini 2 class with a fall in the first moto finishing fifteenth and winning the second moto. The biggest news of the day was signing up for 450 and 250C having never raced big bikes before. I spoke with him about it and he said he purposely started in the back of the pack to avoid getting caught up in any crashes. He came out with a sixth overall in 250C and tenth in 450C going down in the first moto finishing nineteen then coming back to win the second moto starting from the back of the pack. It was a great accomplishment and certainly signs of things to come.

The weekend went by without a hitch out at Motosports Park. Saturday was a little gloomy and then Sunday someone turned on the heat. The track crew was working non-stop and kept everything flowing smoothly with the track in amazing shape for all the riders. If you find yourself heading through the Midwest be sure to stop by Motosports Park. It is a great family owned facility and has been running strong since 1969.
