HURRICANE MILLS, Tenn. - A winning start at the Red Bull AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by AMSOIL can make the whole week at Loretta Lynn's Ranch seem sunny even if it rains.
Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider Jazzmyn Canfield scored a double victory on Tuesday. She won the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Award on the way to winning the Girls (9-11) moto on a track that turned sloppier as afternoon rain poured over the area.
"It was really bad out there," Canfield said. "I did a bunch of Supermans and everything. I felt like I wasn't doing too well as I rode. I am surprised that I won but I'm very happy."
Motorcycle-Superstore.com gives $100 gift cards for the holeshot winners in every moto at the Amateur Nationals. A total of 24 awards were handed out on Tuesday with more to come the rest of the week.
"It was really awesome," Canfield said. "I released my clutch very well at the start. I just tried my best and rode pretty well."
Other Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet riders who landed on the podium during Day 1 of the Loretta Lynn's were Jake Fuerst in 250C (first) and Corbin Hayes in 450C (third).
Matt Bisceglia was a holeshot and moto winner in the Open Pro class.
"I was confident with my gate and confident with my start," Bisceglia said. "I popped right off the line and was a bike-length ahead of everyone at the holeshot."
Timmy Crosby won the holeshot in the Schoolboy 1 (12-16) B/C class with a new piece of equipment that he'll definitely keep on his bike the rest of the week.
"I got the first gate pick and somehow got the start," Crosby said. "I don't know how I did it because my bike doesn't have a lot of the extras everyone else's have. It was the first time I used a holeshot device ever. It's pretty good."
Racing at Loretta Lynn's Ranch continues at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday with another 20-plus Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Awards to be handed out.
