English Town Area Qualifier Report
With the snow in the Northeast just barely melted away August seems like an eternity away. But for those who want to compete for an Amateur National Championship at Loretta Lynn's, August is just around the corner. The road to a championship begins with an area qualifier and one of the first area qualifiers in the Northeast in 2010 was held at Old Bridge Township's Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey on the weekend of March 20th and 21st.
Beautiful weather greeted the racers on an hand and despite the torrential rains that plagued the area the week before the track was in excellent condition. The rough technical terrain was a match for all racing abilities and classes and the race to qualify was intense.
Saturday's racing was for youth and stock class action while Sunday was veteran and Modified class racing. The top qualifying "A" rider for the weekend was Suzuki mounted Frankie Lettieri. The rookie "A" class competitor is hoping to make some noise at the Ranch this summer and his top position in both 250 and 450 A classes was an excellent step in the right direction. Dakota Kessler was the top qualifying Pro Sport racer for the weekend by earning the top spot in both 250 and 450 Pro Sport classes.
Another notable racer qualifying from this weekends area qualifier was Luke Renzland by taking the top spot in both Schoolboy 1 and 250 B Stock. Last year's 250 C Modified class National Champion Jesse Pierce was the top Schoolboy 2 qualifier while his younger brother Keith is attempting to follow in Jesse's footsteps by taking the top qualifying spot in both the 250 C Stock and Modified classes. In Vet class racing the ageless Barry Carsten just keep on going and was the top qualifier in both the 35 and 40+ classes.
The Carroll family has been a long time motocross family and this year they are attempting to be the first 3 generation family to qualify for the National Championships. They took the first step with all three finishing the weekend in qualifying position. The youngest Bryton qualified in 51 (7-8) AMA Stock 2, his dad Brian in Vet 35 and 40+ and Grand Pa Brian in the Master 50+ class.
Good luck to all at the next step at the Regional Qualifiers in June.
