SUBJECT: COMPETITION BULLETIN 2015-11:

Clarification of Age Limitations of 250 C (12-16) Limited Class

It is necessary to set forth the official application of the age rule with regard to the new 250 C (12-16) Limited (Class 6).  Section C.2 the 2015 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship National Supplemental Rules provides:

For Youth classes, the age of the rider on January 1 will determine their age for the reminder of the year. For classes 14-18, the age of the rider is determined by their age as of the first day of National competition (July 28, 2015).  For all other classes, the age of the rider is determined as of the date of the event (i.e., Area Qualifier).

The new 250 C (12-16) Limited class is an Amateur class, not a Youth class.  Accordingly, the age of the rider is determined as of the date of the event (i.e., Area Qualifier).  This provision has been interpreted to mean not only the date of the Area Qualifier, but the Regional and the National.  Hence, riders must be between the ages of (12-16) at the time of the Regional in order to be eligible to compete at the Regional, and between the ages of (12-16) as of July 28 – the official date of the National – in order to compete at the National.  This means that riders that turn 17 between the date of the Regional and July 28 may continue to compete at the Regional, but will be prohibited from competing at the National.

We hope this information will alleviate any further confusion or misunderstanding.
